On beat was founded on January 2001 by Ivy Cuervo. The idea to create an all women dance company came about during her stay in New York. It was there that she learned the exquisite form of dancing Mambo on 2. Because Ivy was versed on 1, dancing on 2 proved to be a challenge that could only be satisifed by learning and dancing as much as possible. When she returned to Toronto her ideas had evolved and a vision had been born. That vision was to begin an On 2 dance company that would feature women dancers who would perform innovative and original choreography. And so, On beat was born out of love and respect for Mambo.
