Just a quick update on the 2nd mediterranean Salsa Congress August 08-12, 2002 in Barcelona

All preparations for the Congress are going GREAT! This will be a salseros delight.
As of today June 19, 2002 we have over 150 pre paid registrations. Over 25 dance teams, 30 workshops, international dj's, over 15 vendors and Salsa dancing till 4AM every night.

We have media representing all parts of the world asking for credentials now. They don't want to miss this event. If you haven't made your hotel reservations or sent in your registration form, we suggest you do it now.

All prices are going up on July 19, 2002. So get your registrations in NOW! We are only 45 rooms away from selling out the whole Fira Palace Hotel, where the congress is taking place. Get your registration forms in soon.

Voting System
The panel will consist of 18 well-known judges from the world of salsa dance and entertainment led by the professional Broadway dancer and choreographer, Marma Torres.

Some of the invited judges are Jheszs Aponte, Stacey Lspez, Tito Ortos, Vanessa Millan, Laura Canellias, Josie Neglia, Seaon Bristol, Lucy Lesn, Marielis Molina, Xiomara Vasconcello, Rafael Gonzalez, Jayson Molina, among others.

General Rules

1. The San Juan Salsa Open is an international salsa dance competition open to people of all ages, nationalities, cultures and countries.

2. For the preliminary phase, the competitors in each category will be divided, by lottery, into two groups.

3. In the preliminary phase each couple will dance individually two minutes of a song chosen by the organizing committee.

4. Eight (8) couples will be selected from each preliminary group to advance to the semifinals for a total of 16 couples competing.

5. In the semifinal and final rounds, each couple will present a performance using their own music in no less than two (2) minutes, but no more than three (3) minutes. The use of sound effects of the music selected will not be permitted. Only salsa and/or mambo music can be used.

6. In the semifinal round, a panel consisting of five (5) judges will evaluate the competitors.

7. Only eight couples from each category will advance to the Grand Final, where they will be evaluated by a panel consisting of seven (7) judges.

8. In the event of a tie in the preliminary round, both couples will advance to the following round. In the event of a tie in the semifinal and final rounds, all judges will vote again, but only for the couples that were tied.

10. In the preliminary and semifinal rounds, the judges may ask any couple for a second performance to be evaluated.

11. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to:
a. Change the competition system in the preliminary and semifinal rounds.
b. b. Go directly into the semifinal round in case a category does not have enough competitors to have a preliminary

12. The competitors will accept the decisions of the judges and Organizing Committee as final and indisputable.

13. Expressions of discontent from dancers, choreographers, and/or family members toward the judges, organizers, general public, sponsors and/or any related entities with the San Juan Salsa Open and the World Salsa Congress are absolutely prohibited.

14. Competitors in the children and youth categories must present passports as evidence of age. The eldest of the competitors will be the age used to classify the couple.

Sistema de votacisn

Reglas generales
1.El San Juan Salsa Open es una competencia internacional de baile de salsa abierta a todas las edades, nacionalidades, culturas y pamses.

2.Para la fase preliminar, los competidores de cada categorma seran distribumdos, por loterma, en dos grupos. Los competidores seran evaluados por un panel de tres jueces.

3.En la fase preliminar cada pareja bailara individualmente dos minutos de una cancisn elegida por el comiti organizador.

4.De cada grupo preliminar se elegiran ocho (8) parejas que adelantaran a la ronda semifinal, para un total de 16 parejas semifinalistas.

5.En las rondas semifinal y final, cada pareja presentara una coreografma de no menos de dos (2) minutos ni mas de tres (3) minutos con su propia mzsica. No se permitira el uso de efectos de sonido en dicha mzsica. Sslo se podra usar mzsica de salsa y/o mambo.

6.En la ronda semifinal, los competidores seran evaluados por un panel de cinco (5) jueces.

7.Adelantaran a la Gran Final, ocho (8) parejas de cada categorma, en donde seran evaluados por un panel de siete (7) jueces.

8.En caso de empate en la fase preliminar, ambos competidores adelantaran a la siguiente ronda. En caso de empates en las fases semifinal y final, todos los jueces volveran a votar, pero sslo por los competidores que estan empatados.

9.Los jueces podran solicitar que cualquier competidor realice una segunda presentacisn para una nueva evaluacisn en las rondas preliminar y semifinal.

10.El Comiti Organizador se reserva el derecho de:
a. Cambiar el sistema de competencia en las rondas preliminar y semifinal.
b. Ir directo a la ronda semifinal en caso de que una categorma no tenga suficientes competidores en la fase preliminar.

11.Los competidores aceptan las decisiones del panel de jueces y del Comiti Organizador como finales e inapelables.

12.Estan totalmente prohibidas las expresiones de desagrado hacia jueces, organizadores, pzblico, patrocinadores y/o cualquier persona o entidad relacionada con el San Juan Salsa Open y el Congreso Mundial de la Salsa por parte de bailarines, entrenadores y/o familiares de los competidores.

13.Los competidores de las categormas Infantml y Juvenil deberan presentar su pasaporte como evidencia de edad. Se usara el competidor de mayor edad para clasificar a los bailarines.
