Dear TOsalsa! -- Salsa Videos

January 21, 2004 -- that is not nelson flores!

just wanted to point that in the clip that you name "Nelson Flores social dancing in Puerto Rico", that is not Nelson Flores you show. Nelson is the guy in the white jacket dancing next to them! Maybe you should check teachers websites for pictures to make sure you get the right face to the right name! -- Cristina

Dear Cristina, I hate to burst your bubble, but since I known Nelson Flores personally for almost 4 years now -- yikes! and I even checked my own clip to make sure it was linking correctly... Either you've never met him or you need your eyes checked, because I was the one taping it personally and it is Nelson Flores. The guy in the white jacket dancing next to him is definitely not Nelson, but another New York dancer (I think as he looks pretty familiar to me) -- unless of course he got plastic surgery and traded places? December 15, 2003 -- Looking for songtitle in a video called "salsa congress-chicago 2003-Jose' Hagevoort & Jo Quinones.wmv"

Hi ToSalsa, I wonder if you know which song the very inspiring couple in the video "salsa congress-chicago 2003-Jose' Hagevoort & Jo Quinones.wmv" are dancing to? I really love their joy, inspiriation and game during the dance. And the song is very very good too, but I have no idea which one it is. Do you know? Please tell me if so.

Greetings from Sweden, Skåne, Lund. Johan Sandgren Salsero in south of Sweden (Scandinavia) Cccccooold, the snow just dropped down brrrrr

November 27, 2003 -- Dear TOsalsa videos

ever since long ago, i haven't been able to see the videos of los rumberos, salsa kids and all of frankie martinez. did u guys change the format of the videos to avi's because i didn't have this problem before, i was able to see them with no problem but all of sudden one day it just didn't work until this day. -- Efrain

Dear Efrain, thanks for writing in to let us know; but there's many different reasons for your video problems... mostly technical and usually due to reaching our website (server) bandwidth maximum.

But your timing is perfect in bringing this up because we are moving to a new server that has alot more bandwidth. In the past, once you reach your maximum bandwidth useage (and we have lots of users who like to look at the videos), no one could download them to watch them any longer; and/or there's a maximum no. of readers who could download the video at the "same time" which also creates problems... How can we get around that problem? Maybe one day, we will have access to a "streaming server" which means many users can watch the same video all at the same time.

Also, the move is happening this weekend, so by December 1st, the videos should be up and running with hopefully very little "downtime".

If anyone still has problems viewing the videos, i.e. you have Quicktime, but you can hear the audio but not the picture, then you probably have a corrupted version of Quicktime on your computer and will need to download and reinstall it again. -- Rose

June 23, 2003 -- Videos?

Hi Rose! Sorry for the impatience :) But I was wondering when the LA videos will be up? - S or Anxious

Dear Anxious, sorry, but the summer is my busiest salsa time with all the Congresses and Salsa Team Canada, so it's difficult to say when I'll have the time. But I already know which ones I'll be picking... the West Coast Salsa Congress this year was one of the best ever... and there wasn't one night of performances that was better than another. The level of the performances went up another notch this year -- Rose

August 16, 2002

I've been searching and searching for the 1972 movie Nuestra Cosa (Our Latin Thing) that was reproduced in 1993 by Movies of International, Inc.; Produced by Jerry Masucci; Leon Gast, Director. If you can help or know of a way that I can obtain a copy of it please let me know.
Thank you, Muchas Gracias, Alfredo Santana

Dear Alfredo, if I remember correctly, I think if you go to Descarga.com, they may be selling copies of that video.

August 4 , 2002 -- Video Reviews

Super Mario and Cool Moves are both excellent. They are simple yet complete in their descriptions. The camera work is good and leaves few if any questions unanswered. The moves themselves are nice and easily leadable. These guys have great personalities and you get a feeling they actually want you to learn.

The others you mentioned I haven't seen.

As for reviews generally, get the opinions of respected dancers, middle level and beginners. The people making tapes know one another. Many have shared teachers in the past or were taught by one another. This can lead to a mutual patting on the back club -- Michael

Dear Michael, thanks for your feedback on video reviews -- although a mix of reviews from dancers (who share their own personal experience from the dance tapes) and more experienced instructors' reviews can also be helpful in some cases as inexperienced students may not realize if a certain trick or dip is being taught correctly. Also, if any instructor and/or website gives a great review to a bad videotape, would you ever trust their opinion again, I highly doubt it. Rose

April 29, 2002 -- salsa aerobics video
Hi Rose & Ziv, first I want to compliment you on a GREAT site. I think it's changed/improved a lot since I saw it last year. My question is this. I do workouts at home using videos and I'd like to find a salsa aerobics video. Do you know where I can look? I'd really appreciate your help, Bridget

Dear Bridget, I'm not very familiar with the range of salsa aerobic videos in today's market. I would suggest doing a search in www.google.com and see what comes up. I would also suggest being very careful about the video you choose to ensure it's someone in the world salsa scene as you may not like the salsa moves they use if they are just commercial videomakers, such as Kathy Smith. Her moves were not typical of today's salsa scene, but it really depends on what you're looking for. If it's movement to salsa music for an alternative cardio workout and you don't care what you're moving to, then this doesn't apply. Rose Knows
